Help - Protecting Data

Protecting data

Click the Protect button to bring up the Protect screen:

Select the types of files you want to protect and the data protection application will start backing them up the next time it does a scan of your computer.

To see the list of file extensions that are included in each category, simply move the mouse cursor over the category type and a pop-up will show with the list of extensions.

If the type of file you want to back up is not represented in the initial list of file types, click the Add a file type and location... link in the Protect these file types at these locations section to get the Edit file type settings dialog box:

With this you can create your own definition of the types of files you want to protect and where those files are located on your machine.

If you want the data protection application to ignore certain file types at certain locations on your machine, click the Add a file type and location... link in the Exclude these file types at these locations section to get the Edit file type settings dialog box.

Note: During the initial backup, you might want to select the option Use all available bandwidth to ensure the fastest transfer of data to the Vault. You would only do this during a period of time when you will not be using your computer, such as after work hours.
